For Forms 3 to 6 (Years 5 to 8) Design Technology is taught as a timetabled specialist subject. Below Form 3 the children have experience of making and designing items as part of their classroom topics.
Lessons for the senior children take place in a well designed and equipped studio in the main school. It is adjacent to the art room and the two subjects are timetabled back to back to allow movement between both areas.
Form 6 (Year 8) waistcoats
Form 5 (Year 7) are asked to design a student's bedsitting room.. They create a design board, use a computer graphics package to design the room and then create a 3-D version.
Form 3 (Year 5) The children are given plain white T-shirts and produce the above.
The brief for Form 6 (Year 8) is to design and make a waistcoat. The children print the material, make a paper pattern of the waistcoat, cut the material and sew the garment together, including linings, zips or buttons.
