Nursery and Pre-Prep A (Reception)

Here the children are developing the crucial knowledge, skills and understanding that help them to make sense of the world. This forms the foundation for later work in several subjects including history. The children visit local areas of history such as Hamptonne and La Hougue Bie and welcome visitors who come to speak to them about specific subjects.

Pre-Prep B and C (Years 1 and 2

The children are introduced to the way of life of people from around the world as well as studying how people lived in the past. Pre--Prep B learn about what homes were like a long time ago, how children played and what seaside holidays were like in the past. They have various trips out to places such as the local museum. Pre-Prep C look at life before electricty, The Great Fire of London and historical characters such as Gerald Durrell.

Form 5 (Year 7)

Children will now follow the Common Entrance syllabus for the next 2 years and will study Expansion of Trade and Industry: Britain 1750 - 1900; The Crusades and Exploration and Discovery.  

Form 6 (Year 8)

This year group will study the Medieval Realms and will become experienced in handling source materials such as documents, paintings and photographs.

Form 1 (Year 3)

History topics for this year group include prehistoric societies, the Neolithic period and ancient Greece. During the Spring term the children take part in a 'Greek' day including Greek sporting activities.

Form 2 (Year 4)

Children learn about the Romans, Anglo Saxons and Vikings.   As part of their learning experience they hold an Anglo Saxon feast with entertainments from the period.

 

Form 3 (Year 5)

Children in Form 3 and above (Years 5 to 8) are subject taught and have two history periods a week.    Form 3 learn about Britain and the wider world in Tudor times and finish the year studying the Egyptians.

Form 4 (Year 6)

The children begin the year by studying the Victorians.  They finish this subject by holding a Victorian day when they come to school in costume, perform an assembly to the senior school, play traditional games and visit the local museum.   In the Spring and Summer terms the year group study castles.   They visit Mont Orgueil and Elizabeth Castles and spend time at Le Mont St Michel during activities week.
