The
Junior Department comprises Forms 1 and 2 (Years 3 and 4). Within this
department, subjects continue to be taught by the Form teachers
with the exceptions
of Music and PE.
Children
within this Department join the Senior School for assembly on three mornings
a week. The school day starts at 8.40
am and finishes
at 3.40 pm, with the exception of Thursday, when
all pupils
take part in the Junior Choir.
Pupils
of this age are encouraged to become more independent and are requested to
arrive in the classroom by themselves and settle to work,
no later than 8:30
am. We have an open door policy and
would encourage parents to feel that they can come and discuss any queries
and
concerns they may have.
Children
in the Junior Department are set 20 minutes of prep every night, to encourage
them to settle themselves and create self-discipline. In addition to this, they are required to read aloud for ten minutes
to an adult.
The
house system is introduced in the Junior Department. Children are rewarded
with stars, which gain House points.
There
is also a more formal discipline procedure, which affects their House rather
than just themselves.
French
begins during lesson time in Form 1 using role play and simple conversation.
