OCTOBER 2008
NEWSLETTER
The first half of term has been very busy and I am sure the children
are ready for their half-term holiday.
I wish all families an enjoyable and relaxing break. Many events are planned for the second half
of term and with this letter you will find information about some of them.
Pre-Prep Harvest
Assembly: Once
again thank you to all the parents who sent in such a wonderful collection of
fruit, vegetables and other produce to the Assembly in aid of Jersey
Hospice. Sister Margaret McGovern,
Senior Nurse, was delighted to accept the produce on behalf of Hospice.
Uniform Shop. Purchases
can be made by appointment only during half term. Please telephone Paula Shales on 07797 725
957. During term time the shop is open
on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 8.15 and 9.00 am. Children
should return to school after the half-term break in winter uniform. May I remind parents that ALL
uniform should be clearly marked with your children's name.
Second-hand Uniform: Items
of second-hand uniform are always welcome.
It would be much appreciated if name labels could be removed from the
clothing before it is brought into school.
Readathon. A
big thank you to all the children who took part in this event and to all their
sponsors. Forms 1 and 2 took part by
coming into school dressed as their favourite book character. The costumes were very imaginative this
year and I am impressed by the creativeness of our parents. Thank you for all your time and effort and I
know that the children enjoyed the day.
Sponsorship money will go to the The Sargent Cancer Care for Children
and The Roald Dahl Foundation.
Music: The Junior and Senior
choirs will be participating in the Jersey Eisteddfod this year and details are
included in this mailing. The Pre-Prep
C Choir will not be taking part in the Eisteddfod this year.
Parking: Parking
should be in designated areas only and never in the yellow chevron area in
front of the Jubilee Block. Extra
parking is available on the High Field opposite the school exit gates. For the safety of all the children, may I
remind you to take extra care when driving in and around school, especially
when dropping-off and collecting your child.
As you may be aware we
have had a spate of burglaries from cars in the local area. Please take valuables with you and make sure
you have locked your vehicle.
Appearance: Please can parents ensure
that boys return to school with a conventional length of hair. Boy’s hair should be no longer than collar
length. Any girl’s with long hair must
have it tied back. I am also a little
concerned about some children’s appearance particularly when blazers are
looking very worn.
School Day:
Some children are arriving
in school before or just after 8.00 am.
This is too early and leads to a very long day, particularly for the
children at the lower end of the school.
It is recommended that children should not arrive before 8.15 am and
parents should please note that the classrooms are only supervised from 8.30
am.
Computer Games: It has been reported to
me that some children have been playing inappropriate web-based interactive
games on their home computers. I
strongly suggest that you are fully aware of the games that your children are
playing on the computer.
Mathematical Equipment: I
would like to remind parents of children in Forms 3-6 that they should have a
Casio FX or similar scientific calculator for any mathematical lessons. Please note that they should also have the
following:-
30mm ruler
Compasses
180 degree protractor
School Office: The school office will be
closed during the half-term holiday, however the answer phone will be on at all
times.
