OCTOBER 2009 NEWSLETTER

The first half of term has been very busy and I am sure the children are ready for their half-term holiday.  I wish all families an enjoyable and relaxing break.   Many events are planned for the second half of term and with this letter you will find information about some of them.

Pre-Prep Harvest Assembly:  Once again thank you to all the parents who sent in such a wonderful collection of fruit, vegetables and other produce to the Assembly in aid of Jersey Hospice.  Vickie Cavanagh, Home Care Sister, was delighted to accept the produce on behalf of Hospice.

Uniform Shop.  Purchases can be made by appointment only during half term.  Please telephone Paula on 07797 841 829 (Note: this is a new number for Paula and should be the only mobile number used).  During term time the shop is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 8.15 and 9.00 am.   Children should return to school after the half-term break in winter uniform.    May I remind parents that ALL uniform should be clearly marked with your children's name.

Second-hand Uniform:  Items of second-hand uniform are always welcome.  It would be much appreciated if name labels could be removed from the clothing before it is brought into school.  You might be interested to know that proceeds from the second-hand uniform sales are used to purchase extra “luxury” equipment such as lighting for art displays and special music stands.

Readathon.  A big thank you to all the children who took part in this event and to all their sponsors.  Forms 1 and 2 took part by coming into school dressed as their favourite book character.  The costumes were very imaginative and I am impressed by the creativeness of our parents.  Thank you for all your time and effort and I know that the children enjoyed the day.  Sponsorship money will go to the The Sargent Cancer Care for Children and The Roald Dahl Foundation.

Music:  The Pre-Prep C, Junior, Senior and Chamber choirs will be participating in the Jersey Eisteddfod this year and details are included in this mailing.

Parking: Parking should be in designated areas only and never in the yellow chevron area in front of the Jubilee Block.  When parking care should be taken not to ’block-in’ other car park users. Extra parking is available on the High Field opposite the school exit gates.  There is now a pedestrian gate to the school playground opposite the ramp to this car park.  For the safety of all the children, may I remind you to take extra care when driving in and around school, especially when dropping-off and collecting your child.

Appearance:  Please can parents ensure that boys return to school with conventional length hair.  Boy’s hair should be no longer than collar length.  Any girls with long hair must have it tied back.  I am also a little concerned about some pupils’ appearance particularly when blazers are looking very worn.  Please see the Uniform lists (on web site) or Pupil Planners for more information on children’s appearance.

School Day:  A reminder that children should not arrive in school before 8.15 am as the classrooms are only supervised from 8.30 am onwards.

Summer Ball:  For a number of reasons the Summer Ball has been re-scheduled to Saturday 26th June 2010 and will be held at the Jersey Potteries in Gorey. More information will follow. If anyone would like to donate a raffle prize then please contact one of the following: Chula Chobanian-Jones, Louise Howarth, Charlotte Seymour, Beverley Le Marquand or Nicola Branch.

School Office:  The school office will be closed during the half-term holiday, however the answer phone will be on at all times.
